Retailer Seminar

This 2018 SHOT Show Retailer Seminar will bring every FFL up to date on this critical component of their business.

The National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) has been in existence for nearly 20 years. Even though it’s a well-established system, NICS continues to evolve and grow. Our first Retailer Seminar of the 2018 SHOT Week, “Navigating the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS)” shares insight into some of the most common problems and issues encountered when supporting background checks for Federal Firearms Licensees (FFL). Two of the FBI’s NICS Section professionals will provide tips and recommendations on how best to navigate a NICS background check, as well as some of the processing changes the NICS Section is currently undergoing to provide optimal efficiency to end users and their customers.

Leading this session are the FBI’s Eric Moore and Marc Chamberlain.

Eric Moore - NICS Retailer SeminarMoore is a native of West Virginia and a graduate of West Virginia University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Exercise Physiology from the School of Medicine. He began his career with the FBI in 1997 and has worked in the NICS section since its inception in 1998. He has served as a customer service representative, a NICS legal instrument examiner and a program analyst in the Appeal Services Unit and on the Processing for Daily Quality (PDQ) Team. Moore has also been a liaison specialist assigned to the State Support Team and currently serves in that capacity within the NICS Business Unit.

Marc Chamberlain - NICS Retailer SeminarChamberlain began his career with the FBI in 1997 as a fingerprint examiner. He then began working in NICS as an examiner in 1998. He has held many jobs during his NICS career, including program analyst, legal administrative specialist and liaison specialist. During his time as a liaison specialist, initially his primary function was to serve as a liaison between the NICS Section and FFLs. He now focuses on the NICS E-Check and the NICS Improvement Amendments Act.

The Retailer Seminar “Navigating the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS)” takes place the first day of the 2018 SHOT Show, Tuesday, Jan. 23, from 9:00-10:00 a.m. Registration for the 2018 SHOT Show is now open, and buyers and range owners successfully registering to attend the show can then register for various Retailer Seminars and other educational events.
